I Found Walnut Under The Paint Dec 11 Written By Every time I strip paint off of a piece of furniture I vow to never do it again. Well, I did it again. I couldn’t pass this one up when I saw it in a thrift store. I had a feeling that there might be some nice walnut under that paint. I started by removing the paint. I used a scraper for this job. The paint was quite brittle and came off relatively easily. I was pleased to find some nice walnut veneer under the paint. There was some paint stuck in the pores of the walnut. Since I couldn’t get the paint out of the pores I decided instead to cover the paint with pore filler. This will fill in the pores and in turn cover up the paint at the bottom of the pores. Then it was time for a little stain. The veneer had a good color on its own but the stain helped to fancy it up a bit. Then it was time for a clear topcoat. Here’s the finished product. I think it was well worth the effort. See below for the full video of the complete process.
