Roadside Rescue

You never know what you’ll find on the side of the road. It was a cold and rainy day when I happened upon this discarded credenza on the curb. Despite having been out in the rain for a day, I could see that it could still be saved so I took it home.

And in case you’re wondering, I left the cassette case behind for some lucky cassette aficionado to find.

Sculptra label inside a drawer

This credenza was made by Broyhill for their popular Sculptra collection. It was manufactured sometime in the 1960’s. Broyhill Sculptra is a popular line that’s still sought after today by lovers of mid century modern design.

The Colorlith top with the free sign flapping in the wind

Though the top looks like it’s stone, it’s actually a man made product called Colorlith. Colorlith is a fiber-reinforced cement board. You may remember it from your high school science class on the top of the laboratory tables or maybe even as a library tabletop.

Repairing veneer

I had to do some veneer repair as it had lots of veneer chips. In this shot I’m trimming a new piece of veneer. Yes, I am aware that my chisel could use some attention.

Staining

After stripping off the old finish, I applied some new stain. In this case I used a gel stain.
